India
Jaisalmer
A sandstone fort that still houses residents rises from the Thar Desert, where camel caravans once carried silk and salt.
Wander Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli for filigree stonework, then drive to Sam or Khuri for sunset on rolling dunes—many camps include folk music and Rajasthani dinners. Longer safaris reach deserted villages. Respect heritage guidelines inside the fort to ease structural strain. October–March offers bearable days and cold nights; April–June can exceed 40°C. Combine with Jodhpur or Bikaner on a desert circuit.
